The Heritage Church Show....

Honestly, I am horrible at writing blog!!   Last post was so long ago....

Today was my 4th year of attending The Benvoulin Heritage Craft Show.  This is one of the best Christmas Craft show in town.  You will just love walking in and admire local craftsman ship.  Most of them have a daytime job and doing this on a side.  It is just amazing to be part of it!
I want to add photos to show you all what is the show looks like...
This is the heritage church we are having the craft show at.  This is 19th year, and it is extremely popular.  There were about 70 people lined up outside  by 8am.

This doesn't justify the craziness of this show...  The lineup inside was CRAZY!!!!

Here's my table.  I bake loads of goodies with my mom.

I hope most of them gets sold!!!  Last year was amazing, many had bought most of our goodies!  :)

These bird houses are super popular!!!  She makes amazing bird houses!  This little snowman is made by the organizer of this show.  To me, her sense of artistry is so amazing.  This little guy smells like Christmas Gingerbread...  Better hide from my dog.  She will eat it...

If you happen to be in Kelowna during this time next year, I highly recommend you to visit this show!

So I made this...

It was a big hit!

Just simple vanilla cupcakes and vanilla butter cream.  With fondant decorations.

It was a great way to end 2012, and start of 2013!!!!   I love making little decorations with fondant, it's so fun and just love to see when my client enjoy them!

Nothing makes me happy to know that my cakes can make people happy .

Things Happen Unexpectedly

Happy New Year to everyone!

What a year 2012 was for me!  I changed work places within 4 months.  My biggest thing of the 2012 was, I got a new puppy.   She just turned 3 months!

Let me tell you, though...  She's a super handful one!!  But very loyal to me and very needy.

Anyway, back to my unexpected things in life that happened in 2012.   You know, I'm  not a bread baking person.  Because, bread is ALIVE!  You leave a dough for 5 min and it grows in to this big goop.  If I do one thing wrong, doesn't rise, looks funny and just bad news.  In order for me to learn how to bake cakes without big baking degree, I decided to get a job at a German bakery.  It  has cakes and breads.  So I got a job as a cake decorator.  Was not the job I expected!  Was not the greatest work environment.  To begin with, they were no longer "German/Swiss" Owned bakery.  They were Middle Eastern, who really knew nothing about European cakes and breads...  Just so disappointing!  The business got slower so my hours were cut.  At same time, I was working at this big box grocery store.  Suddenly, this store needed a mixer (A person, who makes dough).  All the sudden, I'm dealing with dough!  UGH!  Endless amount of dough everyday!  I start working from 3:30 am...  But I work full time, and I actually enjoy making dough!  And see my products come out nice and toasty from ovens.  I even can't wait till next day to try mixing better.  It's a non stop 8 hours work, so right now, I'm exhausted that I can't bake anything when I come home...  So I will post my recent cake photos...  Strawberry mousse cake.  One with Strawberry on top and the other, filled with ganache.  But who knew I'd work in bakery making dough, things in life really happens unexpectedly...  Well, I'm gonna try to bake more cakes on a side!!

Christmas Show

Hello... And Sorry for not writing my blog for more than 1/2 a year!
I had been busy in many different ways.
Found new work but feeling the down fall of economy every day :-(

I just thought I would post my Christmas cookie seriese 2012!
My mom and I was a vendor at Benvoulin Church Christmas Show.  This show is crazily busy every year.  And this is one of the best Christmas show in town!!  If you have a chance next year, please come by.  You will enjoy it for sure!
This year, I just thought I would make Santa cookies.  They are made out of a heart shaped cookie cutter.  I've been checking out different site online and finding out I don't have to use specific cookie cutter for a specific cookie.  A heart shape cookie cutter can be very useful!  This is one way of using it and also I found another design from someone else that uses aheart shaped design that I can apply to cookies :-)  shall do that and will post it soon!

I also made few other Christmas themed cookies this year.  They are totally cute!
My gingerbread boy turned out kind of dark.  I used black strap + molasses.  I think that could be why he turned out to be really dark...
haha so it's not chocolate flavour, it's really a gingerbread kid :-)

I really do bake and create more than cookies, you know...  I'll post some more photos of cakes!

Pretty in Pink!

I think spring has finally arrive in my town.  It was long cold winter that dragged for awhile. I personally like cold weather.  But when winter being indecisive about whether it wants to stay or not, I do feel we had enough of it.   So I thought, I'd make a 'Spring' cake.  This cake is basically a fresh fruits short cake. I wanted to get out of 'regular' looking strawberry shortcake. I also wanted to practice my rosette piping.  Then for the design, I used my favourite ombre look.   That's how this cake was created :)

Thing with this cake is, all rosettes are made out of whipping cream.  If you like cake to be super sweet, I suppose you could use butter cream.  Thing with this was working it quickly.  The temperature of my hands start to melt whipping cream fairly quickly!!!   It would be awesome to change the colours of this cake :)

Kawaii?? Skulls

I found this skull cookie cutter at the bulk barn the other day. I always wanted to make kawaii punk skull cookies. I thought I'd let my imagination play with it. I had little heart cookie cutter, and cut out his heart. haha. Voila! It's super kawaii!

Then I thought... It's so sad, that I didn't make entire pirate themed cookies! I think I do have a flag cutter, so next time, I'm going to make pirate themed cookies!!

<

Okay, so, I thought I'd just leave his head because he was so cute!

Anyway, you know that feeling of "OMG, I need a vacation!" ? That's exactlly how I'm feeling right now. I have this hugest drama at work, that's getting on everyone's nerve. So, I'm not trying to make an excuse but when I come home and I have to bake cookies &/or cakes, I procrastinate. I sit in front of PC and play with it. Then what happenes? OH yeah, I still have to bake cookies for clients!!! It is 11:30pm, cookies are still in my oven getting ready for shipment. This order though, my client only wanted cookies without deco... So I think, I'm still gonna put eyes on these cookies!

The Lorax!

So, I thought I would try to make Lorax cookies.  I have to be honest with you.  I have neither read the book, nore seen the movie...  Oh, what the heck!  He is SO CUTE!

I decided to trace pictures onto a parchment papera so I can place this on to cookies.  Okay, this was much harder than I thought...  At least I know there is always first time for everything!   At least I know each time I create something, I learn new things.  It's just so fun learning and creating at same time.  I'd love to try to make the Lorax cookies again!  To do so, I need to change some of the steps I made!

Here I am, tracing the Lorax and the Unless sign.  I have to let you know, I would NOT use parchment paper for this technique.  Once icing is on a piece of parchment paper, it starts to get wrinkled from the moisture in icing!!!  Thin plastic sheets would be the best for this use.  Plus, you get to use these sheets again.  Ugh!  When I saw papers get wrinkled, you have no idea I was so sad!

Okay, so, I got this idea of using cotton candy for his great mustache from
Sweetopia Just like what she says on this blog. You MUST eat cookies with cotton candy right after you make them!  Because once cotton candy sucks all the moisture, it shrinks and becomes really hard!!

Okay, so, the story is...  I was going to give these cookies to two tiny girl friends.  Unfortunately, I was only able to give cookies to one of them that day.  I saw the other one next weekend, so I saved some for her.  She was so happy and told me how good it is.  I was worried about cotton candy being ugly looking.  Well, what 10 yrs old kid cares when something sweet and awesome is given?    haha all the stress I had for nothing.

P.S.  This technique is fun.  Results are totally awesome.  BUT!!  You will have a cookie with THICK icing.  The girl's dad thought I was turning her into a stray monkey hahaha
